After trailing David Ramirez of Southern California by one stroke at the end of the first round, Louis Pedroza of Southern California kept his poise all the way to repeat as the FWGAD Champion at Eagle Glen Golf course in Corona, California.
This course is beautiful with excellent views of holes as it was rated outstanding course of the month of June, 2008.
Nick Comegna of Southern California struggled during the first two rounds before he finally got his touch and surged to score 72 on the final round but it was two strokes short to tie David Ramirez for the runner up honors. Ken Murashige of Arizona edged longtime FWGAD golfer Lyle Hinks of Northern California by one stroke to win the First Flight title. The 1997 FWGAD Champion Larry Farovitch of Arizona rallied to beat another longtime FWGAD golfer Ed Leighton of Northern California for the Senior Flight. The oldest golfer was Larry Shoemaker, 88, who was inducted into the FWGAD Hall of Fame. Lyle Hinks and Larry Shoemaker participated in the first annual FWGAD tournament which was held in Oakland, California in 1970.
The tournament was successful chaired by Jerry Nichols and Wayne Miller. Everybody had fun as our motto, which is "Play for Fun". Also, FWGAD can be defined as either Farwest or Funwest.
Lyle Hinks is new Presidenct/Director for the next two years. The other officers are Secretary-Treasurer Ed Bazan of Northern California and Statistician Jim Revell of Arizona.
Next year tournament site will be at Circling Raven Golf Course twenty-five miles south Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Set in one of America's premier mountain retreats, the Circling Raven Golf Club was counted among Golf Magazine's Top Ten New Courses You Can Play for 2004.
Arizona Deaf Golfers Association won the bid to host the FWGAD Golf Tournament at Tubac Golf and Spa Resort
in July, 2010. This resort was the setting for the golf-themed movie Tin Cup, which starred Kevin Costner.
